The secret to success is in knowing the differences
“Most people in the world today
do not know the differences
between Direct Selling and Network Marketing.
Many assume
that they are the very same thing.
I believe it’s reason that
so many people have turned
their attention away
from something
that could make a huge,
positive impact on their lives and
the lives of those who they care about.”
– Paul Kero
If the idea of an additional income stream
is interesting to you
but the thought of selling products
to your friends and family isn’t,
I think you will like
what it is that you are about to read.
“Direct Selling and Network Marketing are
two totally different things.”
THE DIFFERENCES
“You mean they’re not the same?”
Direct Selling is best described
as a sales person or representative
directly retailing products or services to customers.
This can be accomplished in many ways
such as Door to Door selling,
Home Show Parties,
Trade Shows or Direct Mailings.
There are
several good Direct Sales companies out there
that are looking for people
to sell their products
either full or part-time
using these methods and others.
Success with Direct Selling requires
a big commitment and
lots of time invested.
For that reason,
DS is not for everyone.
“So, what is Network Marketing then?”
Network marketing is based
on a network of people
who self-consume product and
show others how to make money
through growing the network.
“That’s it.”
“Now, what does that mean?”
To begin with,
If you open your discussion
with how great your product is,
you are direct selling it.
If you open your discussion
with the question
“Are you interested in making some money?”
you are networking marketing.
That is just one huge difference
between the two.
Direct sellers may love a product
that they are selling
but they are selling it
to make money.
If their company stopped
paying them tomorrow,
would they continue to sell the product
because they love it? Probably not.
Part time, full time are terms
that apply to a job.
Direct selling is a job.
Network marketing on the other hand
is not a job.
Network Marketing is a way
to create additional income.
(NM doesn’t require a big time commitment like DS does)
A very skilled direct seller
working full time may have 200-300 customers max.
Part timers probably have less than 50 customers.
It takes many hours of work
to create a customer base.
(Network Marketers have zero customers)
A network marketer may have
tens of thousands of people
in his or her network.
Most of the people in the network joined it
without any direct input
from that original network marketer.
The network will continue to grow or
expand without any direct input
from the original network marketer.
Just a few minutes of conversation
with very small number of people
can start to create a huge network.
(Network Marketer gets benefit from entire organization)
A direct seller
gets paid from retailing products
to his or her customers.
The direct seller gets a check and
their customer gets a product.
A network marketer gets paid
from the self consumption of the network.
The people in the network get their own products
direct from the company at a discounted price.
Everyone in the established network
receives benefit and
are eligible to be compensated.
How Network Marketing works
Picture in your mind, you started a network that has grown into a large organization of 10,000 people, all joined together in the network.
If everyone in that network just did 125 *points of personal consumption product volume, the network would do a total of 1,250,000 points.
With the company that we are associated with, their compensation program would pay you about $62,500 dollars a month. Those who you originally talked with yourself and joined the network also would be paid roughly the same amount of income. (* Points are a value given to a product for the purpose of calculating income percentages. Normally close to the wholesale cost of a product.)
10,000 people may sound like a number that is way too large to comprehend. It would be if you were direct selling to customers.
A network marketer only needs to start 3 people growing the network to eventually realize the benefit from 10,000 and more people in their network. Here is an example of how that could work as everyone just start three each.
1 3 3 X 3 = 9 9 X 3 = 27 27 X 3 = 81 81 X 3 = 243 243 X 3 = 729 729 X 3 = 2,187 2,187 X 3 = 6,561
Total those people in the example network up and it comes to 9,841. That’s almost 10,000 people right there and the numbers just keep increasing. Very important to keep in mind that you personally started only 3 people. Everyone in this example each started only 3 people.
No one in this example is working a full or part time job like a direct seller. A direct seller could never hope to have 10,000 customers however a network marketer can easily achieve the benefit of 10,000 strong and more in just the time it takes them to personally start 3.
The example below shows how the income that the network marketer receives is generated through the compensation program that our company uses. No one is selling any products. Everyone is only personally using 125 points of product per month. (roughly $150 worth)
You – 1255% $6.25 3 X 125 = 3755% $18.75 9 X 125 = 1,1255% $56.25 27 X 125 = 3,3755% $168.75 81 X 125 = 10,1255% $506.25 243 X 125 = 30,3755% $1,518.75 729 X 125 = 91,1255% $4,556.25 2,187 X 125 = 273,3755% $13,668.75 6,561 X 125 = 820,1255% $41,006.25 9,8411,230,125$61,506.25 Total OV = 1,230,125 Total Monthly Earnings = $61,506.25 Most people in our country could greatly improve their lives with an additional income stream like network marketing provides.
Almost all people are familiar with Direct Selling. Most people do not have the time or desire to become successful with Direct Selling.
We find that most people who have heard of network marketing confuse it with Direct Selling.
As you now know, the two are very different and we have found that most people who understand the differences quickly decide to join us in our network. It only makes sense.
Why Unicity
Unicity formed more than 13 years ago with the merger of two companies:
Rexall Showcase International and Enrich International.
Rexall Showcase International was the direct marketing division of Rexall—a well-known, highly trusted company whose roots go back to the early 1900s.
In the late 1980s, Rexall Showcase became a direct marketing organization which was eventually acquired by Royal Numico in 2000.
Enrich International was a direct marketing company established in 1972 and was the first company to successfully encapsulate and market herbal dietary supplements on a commercial basis. Enrich International was sold to Royal Numico in 1999, and merged with Rexall Showcase in 2001 to become Unicity.
Today, Unicity is a network marketing company with a strong presence in more than 30 countries around the globe. Recognized as one of the Top 500 Privately-held Businesses in the United States— ranked 87th on the national level and First in the state of Utah—
Unicity stands as an industry leader for both nutritional supplements and business development.
Focusing on both physical health and personal development,
Unicitys’ proven products and structured business opportunity have helped thousands of people around the world exemplify their corporate motto to help “Make Life Better.”
When it comes to products, many of their unique, science based formulations are listed in the Physicians Desk Reference.
Unicity has more products in the PDR than any other company of its type. Product research and development are very important to Unicity.
Their mission is to bring safe, alternative and effective products to the masses that work in many cases as well as or better than prescription medications.
Several of their most popular products have had clinical studies published on them.
Not just the ingredients but the actual products themselves.
This process is expensive and rare for companies in their industry to do.
However, Unicity feels that it is important to prove just how well their products work, not only testimonials from product users but with real measurable science from a third party perspective.
Most Important
Direct Selling requires lots of time and lots of selling to customers.
Network Marketing on the other hand, creating a network that continues to grow on its own and pays you income generated from the self consumption of the hundreds and then thousands of members in the network, requires almost no time compared to Direct Selling.
Network Marketing and Direct Selling are two very different things,
There are just 3 things you need to do to maximize the compensation program and start a network successfully growing.
The 3 things are:
1.)Sign up. Fill out the application along with the one time fee of less than $50, paid to Unicity. This will create your spot in the network, then making it possible for others to be added to your organization. Your network can start growing almost immediately so the sooner you get signed up, the better it is for you. Other people who have started before you did are adding new people to the network every day. This can only benefit you if you are signed up. Don’t wait on this.
2.)Try some product. The best way to believe in a product is to give it a try. The best way to purchase a product is at the best available price. That is what you get once you are signed up. once you have an ID# go to the Unicity website and see what they have to offer. Order whatever you like. once you are doing a minimum of 125 points worth of personal orders a month, you are then eligible to receive compensation from Unicity.
3.)Get three others started in the network. The Unicity Compensation Program gives you the maximum benefit once you have started three people personally. You start people simply by having them do exactly what you have just done. Sign up, try some product and get three others started.
I know this may sound like it is way too easy. The truth is that it really is just this simple. It can become difficult if people start to mix in direct selling activities, which then creates confusion and slows down the growth of the network.
Our only task is to create the network. We do that by signing up, using product and getting others started. Everything else is handled by Unicity from the corporate level.
Network Marketing, the way we do it is very simple and very rewarding. People are living wonderful lives through the power of this program. It doesn’t matter where you are in life or what your experiences have been, today you can start moving in the direction of truly making your life better.
Bonus Programs
When you focus your efforts on network marketing and the 3 steps, you automatically position yourself to start growing a network and then collecting several bonuses that Unicity has in place.
2 bonuses that I want to talk about here are the “Director Lifestyle Bonus” and the “President’s Club Bonus.” Combined, just these 2 bonuses guarantee $131,300 on top of the normal percentages paid out with the “Infinity Share Bonus” program.
These bonuses are designed to reward you as your network continues to grow. A question commonly asked is “How do I qualify for some of these bonuses?” The answer to that question is very simple:
1.)Sign up
2.)Start using product
3.)Personally start 3 people who do what you just did
You only need to do this once in your life. As the people who you started get their 3 started and so on, the network continues to grow. As it grows, the number of people in your network increases as does the amount of volume. The really cool part is that as more people get started, you begin to experience exponential or compounding growth which means your network grows faster and faster.
For example, just 40 people total, each using 125 points of Unicity product totals up to 5000 points. This now would qualify you as a Director which means you would make the first level of the “Director Lifestyle Bonus” and Unicity would pay you $2000 lump sum along with an extra $200 per month. (on top of your normal percentages earned)
That’s roughly $450 per month plus $2,000 up front. Not bad for just signing up, using some products and personally starting just 3 others who do what you have done.
When your network grows to 80 people each doing 125 points of product, you are now a Senior Director and Unicity pays you through the bonus program, $3,500 lump sum plus an additional $300 a month on top of your normal percentages.
This example would have you earning roughly $800 to $1,000 per month, $3,500 up front and all you did to get it was:
1.)Sign up
2.)Start using some product
3.)Personally start 3 others who do what you did
You do these things, your network continues to grow and you receive bonuses and percentages direct from Unicity. The bigger it grows, the more money that is earned by the people in the network. Simple as that.
A common question asked is “What if some of the people in your network don’t personally get 3 started?”
That would have no adverse effect on you. People can still receive some income with just one or two personally signed up. However, you need 3 people (what we commonly refer to as 3 legs) to qualify for the bonuses and to maximize the compensation program.
All of the volume in your network, no matter how deep in levels it is helps to propel you to higher rankings and larger bonuses.
Once you sign up, you will receive a “Unicity Compensation Plan Summary” that details all of the money available to people in the network and how you qualify to receive it.
Notice, not once in these examples was it mentioned that anyone needs to sell products to customers. That would be Direct Selling. Direct Sellers of Unicity products grow much slower and rarely get to these bonuses.
You are in the right place at the right time.
Unicity Product videos
On this page you will get to see some short videos that go through some of the most popular and most reordered products available through Unicity. By signing up into the network, you can now order any products that you want to, direct from Unicity at wholesale pricing. Enjoy.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions.
What is “The Product Trap” I hear mentioned?
Unicity makes really good products that work very well. When people have a great product experience, they sometimes mention it to someone. If that person wants to try the product, the first question they normally ask is “Where do you get it from?”
After explaining that it comes from Unicity, the next question normally is “Could you order some for me?” If you provide the product for that person and then also for the people who they may know, you have just become a direct seller and have fallen into the product trap.
The problem with having customers is that it requires much more time and effort for you to service them. If you provide the product at your cost (because you are a nice person) you now are working for free. Customers also tend to be fickle. They don’t normally stay with a brand long term and are motivated more by price savings. Product quality is often dismissed for saving a few dollars.
When you provide product to people, your actions make it hard to show someone how network marketing really works. In their mind, you are direct selling products and we find that most people don’t want to be product sales persons.
The best thing you could do from a network marketing position is to show a person how they can financially benefit from the creation of a network. After that conversation, ordering their own product through their own ID# directly from the company makes total sense. The company collects the money and sales tax, ships the product, handles any problems that may happen in shipping and takes care of refunds if necessary. Network marketers don’t have to worry about these issues. Direct sellers however, normally have to handle issues like these for free.
Having everyone ordering their own personal use products directly from the company themselves is the most efficient way to get product to the masses. Through wholesale pricing, commissions and rebates network members truly get the absolute best pricing available for their products.
We also find that a network of people talking about the benefits of the network will create more self consumption product sales total than a direct seller looking for retail customers ever will.
“Why did Unicity pick network marketing to bring their products to market instead of retail outlets such as Walmart?”
100 years ago when companies sold products, roughly 80% of the final cost of a product was made up in manufacturing of it and 20% was in distribution. Today, the picture is quite different. About 20% is in manufacturing due to automation and other factors and 80% is in distribution.
Everything about retail stores are expensive. You have building costs, heat, lights, employees, theft, etc… All of this and more drive up the cost of your products. With network marketing, no product is shipped until it’s bought and paid for. No retail stores and no expensive advertizing. This frees up lots of extra money for research and development plus they can fund a very lucrative compensation program that in turn drives more business.
The company wins because they can be more profitable. The networker marketer wins because they have an amazing comp plan that pays them very well plus the products delivered come at the best pricing available. Network marketing makes a lot of sense.
“I’ve seen that some people are actually direct selling Unicity products online and in other places. What’s up with that?”
People are allowed to market Unicity products however they wish, as long as they abide by the guidelines Unicity has in place. The Unicity Compensation Program will pay people who choose to direct sell products if that’s what they want to do. Those who direct sell products to retail customers are using just a very small portion of the available compensation and bonus programs that Unicity has in place.
Those who focus on building a network like we have described on this website are using almost all of the available compensation plan provided. More income with less effort.
“How is the Unicity Compensation Program different from other comp plans in the industry?”
Comp plans are normally broken down into three levels. Front End which applies to new people to the organization, Mid Level which applies to those with the beginnings of a large, growing network and the Back End which applies to those with a very large, well established organization. Most comp plans cater to the Back End offering up the big reward for those who have been around for awhile. Some comp plans direct more money at the Front End to attract new people to their company. Very few seem to focus on the Mid Level part.
Unicity has created a comp plan that provides substantial income for all three phases. New people are able to qualify for several bonuses that can add thousands of dollars to their incomes. It’s not uncommon for new people to make 2 to 5 thousand in their first 30 days. Some have made much more.
Mid Level people are well compensated with bonuses that continue to increase as they move up through the ranks, on top of their normal percentages.
The Back End people have bonuses and incentives on top of their normal percentages which make 6 and 7 figure annual incomes the norm for those who have the huge organizations.
You can learn the details of the Unicity Comp Plan through the comp plan summary you receive once you are signed up in the network. The great news with the Unicity comp plan is that if you just follow the 3 steps we talk about in this website, you will qualify for each of the incentives and bonuses offered.
“What is a Franchise Owner?”
Over the years, members of the network have been called many different names. Distributor, Franchise Owner, Franchise Partner, associates, Independent Business Owners and the like. They all refer to the same thing. A member of the network.
“What are Points?”
Points are a value given to a product for the purpose of calculating income percentages. The point value changes depending on the product. Normally, the point value is close to the wholesale price of a product. The term “volume” is sometimes used to describe points.
“Is this a Pyramid?”
Many people have heard the term “Pyramid” but most people do not know what that means. A chain letter is a process where people send money to other people in the hopes of receiving more money as more people receive the chain letter. These are illegal because no one is buying anything. A chain letter is a money game. A chain letter is a pyramid.
Network Marketing is not a pyramid. If network marketing companies were operating illegal schemes, they would have been shut down many years ago. Network Marketing companies provide a product or a service that members of the network can purchase at wholesale pricing. They pay out commissions or royalties much in the same way as the insurance industry and real estate companies do.
For some strange reason some people have linked pyramids to network marketing. It’s probably the same reason that most people confuse network marketing with direct selling.
Always base your decisions on fact, not fiction.
The Big Picture
We know from our own experiences that understanding the differences between Network Marketing and Direct Selling can be sometimes difficult. If it isn’t crystal clear at this point, don’t feel bad. Just go back and read over the pages of this website and things will start to “click” for you.
Remember that Direct Sellers are selling product to and servicing retail customers.
Network Marketers are growing a simple network of people that self consume the very same products at wholesale prices.
Picture in your mind that you have an organization (a network) of over 10,000 people who all use just a little personal product each month. Those 10,000 people together will do well over 1,000,000 points in volume for the month. Unicity will pay you roughly 5% of that which is $50,000 per month.
Isn’t that amazing?
Now, the big question is “How do you go about growing a 10,000 person organization?”
To do that you must have a simple, easy to follow program that anyone who wants to can do. We have one of those. Here’s what it looks like:
1.)Sign up
2.)Start using some products
3.)Start 3 people personally who do the very same thing
When everyone does their own small part, the organization will grow very fast and very large. Much bigger than 10,000 people even.
Do you want to make some money? We’re talking some REAL money? Do you know the differences between Network Marketing and Direct Sales? (most people don’t)
The power of the network is an amazing thing. It will positively improve your life and those around you in a massive way. Don’t keep it a secret. Get it started and watch it grow.
“Just keep it simple”
Hi everyone, Kent here.
I’ve been around network marketing, or what I thought was network marketing for about 20 years now. I say it that way because I didn’t know the differences between network marketing and direct selling.
In the past, when I was introduced to opportunities that involved products and making money it was always surrounded by hype and confusion. At the time I thought all of the personal development, training seminars, and material bling that was promoted by the top producers was so cool. We had trainings to learn how great our products were, how to sign up customers, and how to recruit others to do the same. But something didn’t seem right. I didn’t like to sell products and I found a lot of other people didn’t either.
I always felt back then that something was wrong or that I didn’t have the skills or discipline to get to that top producer level because the proof was in the pudding, I couldn’t build a team that was willing to do what I was willing to do. That was talk with people about making their dreams come true by selling great products, going to trainings and recruiting others to do the same. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I knew something wasn’t as it seemed to be.
A short time into Unicity, I met Paul Kero and a little while later, Stewart Hughes. Here are two guys that talked about growing networks of people, who built huge organizations of people with Unicity…but they didn’t have customers.
I still didn’t’ get it. This company had a great product that people needed and it worked really well. I needed it and it worked great for me. Come to find out, I got snared in the product trap. I fell in love with the product and wanted to “help” people. So there I was, back to selling product, signing up customers, and recruiting others to do the same. It was exactly what was ingrained in me with all that training I had early on in my bid to live the dream, time and money together, by selling a product that would change lives.
Because the product was so good I had some early success. I was one of the top producers for several months as I signed up a lot of customers and I sold a lot of product. The company took me on trips. I got to meet the company’s management team. I even got to spend some personal time with Stewart who was now the owner and CEO of the company.
I still didn’t get it. My income had reached a plateau, my group wasn’t growing outside of my efforts and the efforts of few people that I had with me. I had the work ethic, I had the desire, and I even had the discipline. I was with a great company, we had a great lead product and supporting product line, I spent time with the CEO and owner, and I had a supportive and solid upline.
What I had back then was the wrong strategy. Valuable lesson learned.
“Customers don’t grow the network, people who want to make money do.”
I also learned that if there are mixed messages in a company or group culture there is confusion and confused people take little or no action. The message here is clear. Yes, Unicity has great products. Yes, they have a great compensation program. Yes, they have a great management team and ownership that knows how to run a business and cares about people.
Most importantly, we don’t work for the company. We, as network marketers, are a group of people who grow a network of people who self-consume the company’s products. We don’t sell products. We don’t train people to sell products. We don’t recruit people to sell products. We do not do direct sales. No direct selling here. No product parties, no trade shows, no product demonstrations, no stickers on our cars, no business cards, no begging or talking people into joining us. No taking orders. No managing inventory. No deliveries. Direct Sales is a job and it takes a lot of time.
Many people out there are up to their eye balls in the product trap and continue to direct sell Unicity products. (Just like I did) They can do that if they really want to but by doing so, they are leaving most of the power of the compensation plan behind. They are working real hard for less money.
Like I said in the first few sentences of this profile, I have a busy, full life that I really enjoy. I enjoy helping people make more money to enjoy their lives. It’s a whole lot more fun to help someone improve their financial situation almost immediately, and it’s really cool that they get healthier along the way because they self-consume the products that the company develops, produces, and ships directly to them.
Our organization, our group, our team is focused on growing the network. Growing the network of self-consumers. Growing the network of people who are growing the network. We’ve built the network builder system and now the network grows on its own. We’ve built the system simple. Three steps. Join. Use. Tell. It never has to be more complex than that. After you get your first three started, you have the option to do what I do which is add more people below those people as you live your life. The people you start and the people they start will all add people and the network takes on a life of its own and grows without much of your own efforts. You’ll find that those efforts really will be to keep people on track and remind them not to fall into the trap. Just keep it simple.
